Bowdoin Announces Sequel to First Promise Challenge
A group of trustees has anonymously created an exciting new financial aid challenge for the College, contributing $5 million in matching funds for financial aid to encourage others to support this core campaign priority.
The challenge begins now and focuses on endowed scholarship funds.
Donors who establish a new endowed fund for financial aid with a gift of $100,000 will receive a $100,000 match for the fund.
In addition, donors with existing named scholarship funds will qualify for the match with a new commitment of $100,000.
For alumni in the ten youngest classes, a $50,000 endowment gift unlocks a $50,000 match.
The goal is to inspire fifty new gifts and trigger the full $5 million match.
The Bowdoin community overwhelmingly supported a similar initiative, the successful First Promise Challenge in 2021, which provided a $5 million match for fifty endowment gifts.
To date, generous donors have given and pledged nearly $150 million toward the $200 million campaign goal for financial aid.
Financial aid is the linchpin of the campaign’s core promise of access for current and future generations of Bowdoin students.
